Meditation Course – Mastering Oneself  (40 hours)

Course Presentation

This course is aimed at anyone interested in starting a regular and independent personal meditation practice, meditation practitioners and Yoga teachers who want to have a more comprehensive view of the practice of meditation and its impact on life. It’s also recomended for those who intend to prepare themselves for a Foundation Meditation Teacher Training Course.

Meditators will be able to:

a) Practice different meditation techniques, recognize which ones are most appropriate for them and identify the main benefits.

b) Practice meditation regularly with consistency and enthusiasm, knowing how to adapt to their individual and unique circumstances with flexibility and confidence.

c) Learn to integrate meditative awareness naturally and spontaneously, in all moments of life.

d) Understand the role of thoughts and emotions, knowing how to manage them wisely both in relationships with oneself and with other people.

Looking at ourselves through meditation gives us the mental and emotional clarity, necessary to live more peacefully and be happy right now, regardless of circumstances or conditions.


40 hours – contact and non-contact hours breakdown 

- 30 hours: group online sessions via Zoom and face-to-face sessions

- 10 hours: non-contact hours: pre-recorded vídeos, áudio sessions, readings of the handouts, course materials and personal writing assignments

- Recommended Additional non-contact: personal meditation daily practice, writing daily in your sadhana journal

Module 1 – History and Philosophy of Meditation (5 hours)

Module 2 – Personal Meditation Practice (20 hours)

Module 3 –Auxiliary Practices for Meditation (10 hours) 

Module 4 – Ways to Integrate Meditation into Life (5 hours)

 

Module 1 – History and Philosophy of Meditation

- Roots of Meditation

- What is Meditation?

- Why meditate?

- Introduction to the historical background of meditation: from ancient times to the present day

  

Module 2 – Personal Meditation Practice

- Preparation for Meditation:

Suitable place, time and atmosphere

Characteristics of sitting positions

Role of breathing in meditation


- Meditation objects for introspection and concentration


- Practice of different meditation techniques:

Relaxation, concentration, expansion, compassion, inquiring


- How to practice meditation regularly and daily

- Benefits and contraindications of meditation

- Main difficulties to practicing meditation and how to overcome them

 

Module 3 –Auxiliary Practices for Meditation

- Developing awareness trough Auxiliary Practices for Meditation:

Asana, Pranayama, Yoganidra, Japa and Awareness Practices

- Knowing when and how to use auxiliary practices

- The art of relaxing, focusing and observing 

- Recognizing the benefits of each one of the auxiliary practices


Module 4 – Ways to Integrate Meditation into Life

- Meditation in the different stages of life

- Mental health and Meditation: Myths and Truths

- Sankalpa (inner resolution or intention)

- How to maintain healthy social, professional and family relationships through meditation
